Summer Catch (2001) dir. James Tollin

Ah, the teen-sports-sex-comedy. Ryan Dunne (Freddie Prinze Jr.) is a local boy on Cape Cod who hopes to become a Major League baseball player. He has a romance with a rich girl named Tenley Parrish (Jessica Biel) whose family spends their summer holidays at Cape Cod.

Yes, it is as predictable as it sounds.

Infact, it is probably the most unoriginal and most predictable film I ever remember seeing. It is also not very funny at all – fat girl jokes etc; at times the writing is cringe-worthily bad with terrible dialogue and some rather poor acting (especially the final scene at the airport); and baseball isn’t even that interesting. I would, however, give the film a little more than 1 out of 10. By staying to the safe path of predictability it avoids making me so angry that I think it could actually survive another viewing.
